Winter 2021-22

President's Message:

As our 2021 season has come to a close, the Marine Band of Allentown has seen a few changes. In September, our conductor of 15 years, Tom Heinick, retired from the podium. Tom will continue to remain active with the band, playing in our trombone section. In November, we elected our new Director, Matt Becker. Matt will begin bringing his highly acclaimed musical talents and ambitious ideas to the position in January. Chris Klump was elected to our Assistant Director position and will complement the ensemble beautifully. We also appointed a young musician featured as a soloist on Trombone this past season, Mitchell Hourt, to Intern Director. The Ensemble looks forward to working with all of our new appointees in the upcoming 2022 concert season!

I would also like to acknowledge the Band Officers for their outstanding job during the 2021 concert season! Thank you: To our Librarian, Korey, without whom the music would not have made its way to the Band! To Janet and Kathy, Assistant Librarians, for their help in passing music out to the members. To Mike Freitag, Vice President, for running the meetings in my absence. To Jean, Secretary, for the outstanding job on all the Minutes during 2021. To Theresa, Treasurer, for keeping the Band financially moving during this uncertain time. To Matt, Business Manager, for keeping the band up-to-date as performances changed during the summer season. To Curt, our Webmaster and newly elected Vice President, you are awesome at updating the page with frequent changes coming to you from all directions! To our community members, Carol, Louise and David, for your dedication and input to the advancement of the Band!  To George and Kent, Assistant Directors, for stepping in when Tom was unable to conduct. And finally, thank you to Tom for all your dedication and hard work on the programs, not just this year, but for the past 15 years!

Looking forward, the Marine Band of Allentown will continue to monitor the progress of the COVID-19 virus and its variants. This will hopefully not hinder our ability to present an indoor concert this Spring as well as our annual Winter Concert in December 2022. The members of the Band are looking forward to these and our regular outdoor concerts throughout the Lehigh Valley during the Summer 2022!

With that being said, the Band is looking for new members to join the Ensemble! The Band is looking for seasoned players to round out our various sections: Flute, Oboe, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Trombone, and Percussion. If you are interested in attending rehearsals, please contact our Business Manager, Matt Kapun. His information is listed on our webpage. Rehearsals will resume at the Active Life Center starting in January 2022.

Have a safe and happy Holiday Season and we look forward to seeing you in 2022!

Mike
