President's Message April 10, 2020:
I hope everyone is safe and remaining healthy during this unprecedented time
in our country's history. Not only has COVID-19 closed many of the regions
schools, businesses and public places, it has also placed an identical
strain on the rehearsal and performance schedule of the Marine Band of
Allentown as well.
Prior to the shutdown, our Maestro had been actively working with the Ensemble to prepare outstanding concerts for the spring and summer season. As mandated by
the Governor, our Spring Concert (April 19) has been postponed until further
notice. This has also impacted the Festival of Bands Concert scheduled
for April 26, 2020. It has been rescheduled for August 2020, if all community
events are back up and running.
Rest assured, that the Marine Band of Allentown WILL perform their
outstanding selections in the near future! Behind the scenes, Matt Kapun,
Business Manager, is keeping in contact with our scheduled locations to find
ways to perform, once the stay-at-home mandates are lifted. In concert with
Matt, Theresa Nemeth, our Treasurer and Grant Writer, is remaining in
contact with our financial supporters to keep the music going, post-Coronavirus. Our Steering Committee Members-Jean Rohal (Secretary), Jim
Christopher and Community Members Carol Cervalis, and Louise and David Earp are
continually communicating with our Director to ensure we will be
up-and-practicing in the not-too-distant future! Kudos to all the
aforementioned! Without the teamwork, we would not be able to function in
this time of need.
If you are a musician and are interested in becoming a member with the Band,
please contact Matt Kapun, Business Manager. His information is found on the
website under Contacts. We are currently looking for the following
instruments to fill out the Ensemble: Flute, Oboe, French Horn, Trombone,
and Percussion. We rehearse Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30 PM at the Active
Life Center, Allentown. Matt has all the information.
Please check our website frequently. Our Web Master, Curt Adams, will update
the information as it becomes available.
Thank you for supporting the Marine Band of Allentown and I look forward to
seeing you this season at our concerts! From the entire Marine Band of
Allentown, remain safe and healthy. We will get through this together!
